HCV Prescribing Guidelines Webinar by Dr. Susanna Naggie a Success
On Monday, April 18, 2016, HarborPath Board Member Dr. Susanna Naggie presented a webinar outlining current prescribing guidelines for hepatitis C medications for providers serving uninsured patients in the southeast. Dr. Naggie is an Assistant Professor of Medicine at Duke University Medical Center and leads two multidisciplinary HIV and viral hepatitis clinics, providing patient care to mono-infected and co-infected persons and developing research protocols relevant to the clinical care of this population. As Co-Chair of the AASLD/IDSA HCV Guidance Committee, Dr. Naggie has helped create current prescribing guidelines used to treat individuals diagnosed with hepatitis C. There are an estimated 3.2 million people living with hepatitis C in the United States, and approximately half are unaware of their status. Dr. Naggie's expertise in best prescribing practices for mono-infected and HIV co-infected patients is very relevant due to the complexity of the disease as well as recent FDA approvals of curative medications. The informative presentation was well-received by participating providers, and beneficial for clinicians and patients across the southeast.
